to inhabit a body and know nothing
of others has been the dream
of burdens who hope
to exist unburdened
of course is it better
to exist as the center
of that question that matters
to who matters without question

The poem of//to connects the struggle of relating to others. While at first glance it seems to be a tightly ordered unit, it is not as accessible as it initially appears. Its ambiguous structure and theme embodies the challenge of understanding the other. We often fail to afford others the same patience and tolerance for complexity that we allow for ourselves. of//to embraces that dissonance, and reflects it back onto the reader.
