de-escalation in

7.
you ever feel like
running out of your
body?
temperature high.
skin tight.
lungs heavy.
eyes dilated.
muscles firing.
this body is not mine.
this body is not mine.

look into a mirror,
see a face you
don't recognize.
you want to escape.
this body is not mine.

6.
call forth all you
know to bring you
back down. this
body is mine.

5.
breathe in, 2, 3, 4.
hold one, 2, 3, 4.
out one, 2, 3, 4.
hold one, 2, 3, 4.

4.
ground yourself
in the textures
beneath
your body.
let the weight of
your head fall
naturally.
the body wants to
float. resist.
ground yourself
in your breath.
feel the air graze
your lips as you
breathe in, and let
it warm you as you
breathe out.
close your eyes
and listen.
what do you hear?
skateboard against
sidewalk, rubber
against asphalt,
drums and strings.

3.
hold yourself.
embrace yourself.
you are here.
you are living.

2.
let the
earthy scent
of lavender
guide you.
the body wants
to sink.
take each sprig,
weave a
surface for you
to lay on.

1.
throw a
line.
someone
will hold
you.
